2009-Residents of the Bat Zone at Cranbrook, along with Bat Zone Director Rob Mies, visited The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien on Thursday, October 29.

Rob talked about the animal most associated with Halloween and personally introduced Conan and guests to residents of the Bat Zone.

Late Night With Conan O'Brien





Oct. 2005-Director Rob Mies was featured on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Rob brought with him a big brown bat, a baby vampire bat, and a gigantic flying fox.

National Geographic

May 2005-Director Kim Williams and the Bat Zone's vampire bats are featured on National Geographic's "Bug Attack-Blood Suckers." This show was about insects that suck blood, however they started the show with a segment on vampire bats and why they are not as bad as most insects.

Live with Regis and Kelly

Oct. 2004-Director Rob Mies shows Regis and Kelly a variety of bats including a gigantic flying fox (with a 6 foot wingspan). Myths were dispelled and the benefits of bats were discussed.


Martha Stewart Living





 


Oct. 2002-The Organization for Bat Conservation's director, Rob Mies, shows Martha Stewart, and her fans, how to build a bat house. This was the third time the Organization for Bat Conservation was asked to appear on Martha Stewart Living. Rob brought a big brown bat, a pallid bat, and a Mexican free-tailed bat. The big brown and free-tail are common residents of bat houses. The program was aired October 25th, 2002 and OBC was delighted to educate millions of viewers about how to build a bat house.

The Today Show

 

 

 

 



April and Oct. 2000-Rob Mies and Kim Williams, appeared on NBC's the Today Show with Jim Fowler and Katie Curic during their big Halloween show on October 31, 2000, 2001, and 2002. A large portion of the show was filmed outside, along with hundreds of New York City residents dressed up in Halloween costumes. Bats were included in two of Jim's segments. Kim brought on an endangered Golden Bat from the Island of Rodrigues and explained the importance of OBC's project to inform people about their possible extinction. Katie said that she thought that some bats were cute and that she understood the importance of insect-control in the United States. Kim then brought out a vampire bat and talked about the myths surrounding these bats, including references to Count Dracula. This was the second time OBC was on the Today Show with Jim Fowler, we enjoyed the experience immensely!

Wild Things



Oct. 1997-Kim Williams and Rob Mies film for Paramount Pictures "Wild Things." This show was about OBC's rescue work in Australia with the spectacled flying foxes. It aired numerous times throughout the United States and generated much interest in this conservation project.
